London Begins at 40’s food critic James Clark gives his round up of London’s Supper Club Openings for August.

Don’t you just love this time of year? It’s when London’s food creatives get even more creative, and doors to new summer pop-ups open across the city.

It’s time to make the most of these long days and nights, and I’d love to give you a hand with me favourite pop-ups to try this August.

Expect rattan daybeds, sofas and chair, greenery and tons of Summer vibes.

Chef Joo Won takes over the top floor of the Bun House in Chinatown. It’s a bit of a family affair as he’s joined by his wife Sujin. She’s an amazing pastry chef.

The dynamic duo, are dishing up a selection of Asian and western cuisine combo sharing plates. Try the kimchi and cheddar risotto topped with a poached egg and crispy seaweed, and the slow-cooked lamb in pear and soy sauce, seasoned with cucumber and goji berries.

Opening from August 5 to October 4.

One of the most exciting things about long summer evenings in London is the sunset. And Searcy‘s at the Gherkin is the ideal place to take in the changing skyline with a drink in hand.

Expect a five-course dinner, a cocktail on arrival, two glasses of wine, and that cracking view of that sunset I mentioned a moment ago. Afternoon tea and Sunday lunches are also available.

Sky-high dining is available every Friday evening throughout August and costs £119 per person.

Phoenix Farm, White City

Let’s face it, many of us get the urge to leave the city, but don’t actually have the time to do so. Especially after work. That’s all about to change as Sam’s Riverside heads to the Phoenix Farm for four alfresco dinners this August.

The five-course menu boasts seasonal and local flavours, and the cured Cornish halibut and Hereford aged ribeye steak are creating a stir.

Dining starts at 7pm and costs £85pp. If you feel like splurging out another £27.50 gets you a wine pairing. I love that option. It means I don’t have to think for the evening.

Larry’s in Peckham is teaming up with a handful of creative chefs throughout August and into September. Each chef gets one week. Then the next chef moves in.

James Cochran from Islington’s 12:51 kicks off the pop-up with a buttermilk fried chicken sandwich and Turkish Cypriot Selin Kiazim from Oklava presents a crispy pomegranate glazed lamb breast. And there’s more to follow.

Every Tuesday into September.
